Dvar Torah for Parshat Yitro

Based on Likutey Moharan I, Lesson #115

"The people stood at a distance while Moshe (Moses) entered the haze where the Divine was" (Exodus 20:18).

The people stood at a distance — ordinary folk, who think ordinary thoughts, see the haze, i.e., any sort of obstacle, and stay out. Their minds can't pierce the fog.

while Moshe — the ability you have to think like a tzaddik, to think Divine-desiring thoughts,

entered the haze where the Divine was — allows you to square up and meet the challenge, to prove to God, and yourself, that the Divine really is important to you.
