We are presenting collected letters of Reb Noson ,
the outstanding disciple of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov. (Letters printed in Eternally Yours )
#23
To my dear, beloved son, Reb Yitzchak, may his light
shine.
The deliverer of this letter, my dear nephew, Reb Isaac, may he
live,
can tell you how very busy I am, especially after that terrible leak
we had last week, for which, as you can imagine, I had to do a lot
of running around. He pressed me so much though to send you a letter
of encouragement, that I am compelled to write you whatever words
God puts in my heart.
At present, my dear son, I am drawing life and inspiration from
the
Rebbe's lesson (Likutey Moharan II, 78), [about] the
Great Simple Man, who gives vitality to all those who are without
learning both those who know how to study and who are involved
in Torah, but who require a source of vitality when not engaged in
Torah, as well as the people who are totally without learning. Even
those who have sunk to the very lowest levels draw life from this
Man through his periods of simplicity. For in his simplicity he is
drawing from the storehouse of unearned gifts, the unearned lovingkindness
which sustained the world before the Torah was given. This storehouse
is the concept of the path to the Land of Israel.
How fortunate are we! How fortunate are we! to have heard words
of
the Living God, like these. What can we say? What can we say? How
many, many Unearned Treasures did God bestow upon us just in this
instance that we were worthy to this lesson about "the storehouse
of unearned gifts"! Without a doubt you can draw life from this
at all times, all the days of your life; and particularly during times
like these, when so much of the time you are just like a simple man.
You must remind yourself constantly, whenever you are not involved
in Torah, that there is a Great Simple Man who revealed this lesson.
It sustains everything, even those who never heard it and know nothing
about it. It even sustains his opponents! How many countless times
more does it sustain us who were worthy to hear all this from his
holy mouth and from his holy books. We certainly can draw vitality
from this always.
There is a very great deal to be said about this, but time simply
will not permit. His books are sitting in front of you. Go, look into
them and you will find everything you need. Look particularly at this
holy lesson, because you are very much in need of it right now. The
key is belief. You must believe at all times that God created all
that exists, according to His will, with Ten Utterances. Within these
Ten Utterances are concealed the Ten Commandments which, it is known,
contain the entire Torah. Therefore, no matter what a person is doing,
be it physical labor or sitting in his store, he must know and believe
and remember at all times that this too contains Torah, the Torah
which is concealed in the Ten Utterances with which God created everything,
even the products in his store. For God created everything with the
Ten Utterances. Remember this well and really take it to heart. It
is your lifeblood: that through the power of the Great Simple Man
we can receive from the storehouse of unearned gifts. If you inspire
yourself with this at all times, even over extended periods of separation
from the Torah, no matter what arises, I trust God that, through the
separation itself, you will return each time to your learning of the
holy Torah and to prayer with new eagerness and desire. Then everything
will turn into good. The key is always to keep yourself happy.
So trust God that everything is for your ultimate good and that
you
will soon be rescued, with God's help, and be able to send me news
of the great kindness He has done for you. In the meantime, forget
all the worry and frustration which is so troubling and distracting,
God forbid. Just cast your burden on God, and He will support you.
He will send you and all those dependent on you whatever salvation
you need.
The words of your father waiting for your salvation.
